Finding out that you are expecting a baby is very exciting news. Women want to take the best care of their baby and themselves. There is so much to think about that you may wonder where to start. To be less overwhelmed start with things that can be of use to you and baby now. Like nutrition, proper exercise, and how to relieve any discomforts or ailments you may be experiencing. You will have to retrain your body how to be comfortable.

Remember that it is important to take care of yourself too. You know the old saying, “You can’t take care of others unless you take care of yourself”. It is never more applicable than when you are pregnant. Your body and mind is taking care of your growing baby. And with a balance of the two you can enjoy a wonderful pregnancy. Janet Balaskas, birth educator and prenatal yoga teacher put it so well in her book Preparing for Birth with Yoga:

“The emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of pregnancy are vitally important and should not be neglected. The potential for self empowerment, change, healing, and transformation, which is so great during these months, needs to be positively enhanced and encouraged. Women in pregnancy should not be expected to face the challenge of birthing without an adequate physical or emotional preparation.”

It is important to give yourself time to rest and relax, practicing deep purposeful breathing, giving you and your baby time to be present and let the mind clear. Babies are the best at being present. To them there is no other time. Give in to the moment and breathe.
