Greetings!

Summer has arrived with a vengeance – it’s just plain hot outside!  We can take our cues from Nature, if we are willing to pay attention.  As the winter and spring moves into summer, like nature we become more active. We are outside more often and for longer time periods.

Then summer’s searing heat seeps into the earth, into our homes, cars and ultimately into our bones.  Staying cool takes more energy and intentional care.  We slow down a bit in the deepest part of summer – but only if we are paying attention to our body’s messages.  We look for a balance of enjoying the warmth of the season and replenishing the body with hydration and rest.

The lazy hazy days of summer are perfect for a strong yoga practice topped off with a delicious refreshing restorative pose.  This session we’ll take advantage of our warmer, suppler bodies.  And, we’ll use the gift of long, deep restorative poses in every class.

Savasana is often referred to as yoga’s most challenging pose.  Our society is addicted to forward movement, to putting more and more into every day.  Stress levels are creating an increase in health concerns shown to be linked together.  Some of these include obesity, diabetes, heart conditions and early onset of Alzheimer’s.

Come prepared to deepen your practice of yoga including the awesome practice of restorative savasana. Held longer than the typical savasana, it’s just plain yummy!  Upside down or right side up, every body is welcome in a multilevel class.  It’s my job to make sure you have all options made clear so you grow in your practice and remain safe.  We work towards our own “edge” and dance there without creating harm to body or mind.

Thanks to Kat for teaching this class during Free Week!  I’m away at an annual conference and look forward to working and playing with everyone beginning next week. Until then, keep taking great good care of yourself – great self-care means we are better able to bring our gifts to the world.
   Hugs of summer!

FOR COURAGE

When the light around you lessens
And your thoughts darken until
Your body feels fear turn
Cold as a stone inside

When you find yourself bereft
Of any belief in yourself
And all you unknowingly
Leaned on has fallen,
When one voice commands
Your whole heart,
And it is raven dark,

Steady yourself and see
That it is your own thinking
That darkens your world,

 Search and you will find
A diamond-thought of light,

Know that you are not alone
And that this darkness has purpose;
Gradually it will school your eyes
To find the one gift your life requires
Hidden within this night-corner.

 Invoke the learning
Of every suffering
You have suffered.

Close your eyes.
Gather all the kindling
About your heart
To create one spark.
That is all you need
To nourish the flame
That will cleanse the dark
Of its weight of festered fear.

A new confidence will come alive
To urge you toward higher ground
Where your imagination
Will learn to engage difficulty
As its most rewarding threshold!
