BodyMindSpirit

I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me. ~Herman Hesse

Hello Friends!

When I was a kid and complained of a small injury to my leg, my father said jokingly, “ I have a great way to get your mind off of the pain in your leg.” When I asked what it was, he said, “Just cut off your finger.”

Fortunately, yoga gives us the opportunity to pay attention to not just places that may cause us discomfort, but to see all the parts of our body as whole and connected.

As we stretch our tight hamstrings in uttanasana (forward fold) we also feel the four corners of the feet engage, the muscles in our quadriceps and glutes activate, along with the lengthening of our spine and the freedom in the back of our neck. The stretching of our hamstrings gives us the opportunity to connect to our whole self- body, mind and spirit

The practice of yoga brings balance to our body and gives us more ease and sense of flow both on and off the mat. When our body is functioning well, and we are not in pain, we don’t have to think about what our body is doing to get us down the street or into our car each moment, and that is a good thing.

But yoga also teaches us to stop during our day- to pause, breathe and be present to the sensations in the body. This connection offers a sense of well-being and is a gift we can give ourselves.

Get ready for a well rounded practice, with attention to strengthening the glutes to help bring stability to our core, and lower back

Take time to pause and connect with the breath. Be present in your body and celebrate all the beautiful ways it works together.

See you on the mat!

Namaste,
