Upward Facing Dog

This week make more space in the heart and keep the shoulders firmly supported on the back to give more stability to the shoulder joint and integrity to a pose.

Shoulders have a wide range of motion and are prone to injury through repetitive motion, falls, heavy lifting and movement that is mis-aligned. 

We will practice hugging the scapula firmly onto the back through externally rotating the arms and engage the proper muscles in the back to move with integrity and strength.

The Shel Silverstein poem below reminds us it feels good to hug our shoulders onto our back, not tug our shoulders out of alignment!

Hug O War

I will not play at tug o’ war.
I’d rather play at hug o’ war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles 
And rolls on the rug.
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles.
And everyone wins.
